4 Things To Do With Worcester Sauce When You’ve Got Too Much Of It (Including 2 Cocktail Recipes)

in Oct 26, 2022

First things first, we would of course argue that you can never have too much Worcester sauce. So maybe our title was a little misleading… But more broadly speaking, it can sometimes be difficult to know what the options are when it comes to sprucing up your recipes with a splash of Worcester sauce.

Last time on the blog we went into a good bit of detail about what Worcester sauce is, exactly, and whether it’s gluten free. So for today we’ll assume you’re already a fan and get straight to business… So, for a nice bit of culinary inspiration we thought we’d share X simple recipes to make to the most of that classic store cupboard staple. Enjoy!

Super Grilled Cheese and Worcester Sauce Sandwich

No matter what anybody says, this is a classic. It’s an easy-to-make, crowd-pleasing classic, and here’s how to do it:

  • 2 slices of your choice of bread
  • 25g cheddar cheese
  • 25g cheese of your choice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcester sauce

Butter each slice of bread in one side. Place one slice, butter-side-down, in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Add cheese to the bread, and drizzle over the Worcester sauce. Place the buttered side of the remaining slice of bread on top of the cheese to close the sandwich. Cook until lightly browned, then flip the sandwich over until the cheese has melted. Eat and enjoy!

Homemade barbecue sauce

Great for dipping cauliflower wings or lathering onto burgers. Impress your guests with a homemade barbecue sauce!

Ingredients:

  • 5 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 2tsp Worcester sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp salt

To make this recipe, simply grab all your ingredients and mix them together. Simple!

Bloody Mary cocktail

What would a list of Worcester sauce-based recipes be without a Bloody Mary? It’s the classic, world-famous cocktail that you rarely see anyone drink. But if tomato juice and vodka are your things, you probably don’t need us to tell you how to make one…

But just in case, here goes (the recipe here should make 2):

  • 100ml vodka
  • 500ml tomato juice
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Splash of Worcester sauce
  • Splash of Tobasco (the amount here really depends on how spicy you like it)
  • Pinch of celery salt
  • Pinch of black pepper

Mix all your ingredients together, strain into a glass with a few ice cubes. If you’d like to make it a little fancier, try adding a slice of lemon or celery stick to serve.

Virgin Mary cocktail

And for those who prefer their cocktails without the alcohol, fear not. There’s always an alternative, and in this case it’s an alternative with a brilliant name.

Ingredients (this recipe should make 1):

  • 100ml tomato juice
  • 1 tsp Worcester sauce
  • 2 tsp fresh lime juice
  • White pepper
  • Celery salt
  • Tobasco sauce

Mix the tomato juice, Worcester sauce, and lime juice in a tumbler with a few ice cubes. Then add the rest of the ingredients to taste, experimenting as you go until the spice/heat level feels right for you. As with the Bloody Mary, you can add a celery stick for some extra visual flare!
